Summary of the Master Thesis The Role and Importance of Social Work in the Field of Mental Health
The research named The Role and Importance of Social Work in the Field of Mental Health was aimed to determine the importance of social work within the institutions and organizations that provide services and activities related to preservation of mental health in local community. In addition to before mentioned, it is assumed that social work in the field of mental health is under-represented, although very often the determinants of the citizen’s mental health are influenced by the individual’s social circumstances and the environment they live in.
The empirical research was conducted in the city of Tuzla in the period from July to September 2016, and for its purposes a special research instrument – questionnaire was designed. The study included 70 participants, 32 social workers and 38 other professionals of helping professions working in institutions and organizations of Mental Health (Social Work Center Tuzla, Institute for Psychological and Social Care at the University Clinical Centre Tuzla, Institute for Education of Persons With Mental and Physical Difficulties Tuzla, Center for Mental Health – Dom Zdravlja Tuzla, Home for Children Without Parental Care, PI Educational Centre of Tuzla Canton, Retirement Home and 5 non-governmental organizations; Amica Educa, Vive Žene, Snaga Žene, Zemlja djece and UHD Prijateljice).
The analysis of the empirical research results was done using known statistical methods, performed with the assistance of statistical package for data analysis (SPSS 20). The results showed that social work in institutions dedicated to the mental health preservation has an important role in the promotion and preservation of mental health in the local community, but also that social work within these institutions is inadequately present.

Die Recherche Die Rolle und die Bedeutung von Sozialarbeit im Bereich der psychischen Gesundheit sollte die Bedeutung von Sozialarbeit innerhalb von Institutionen und Organisationen ermitteln, die Dienstleistungen und Aktivitäten im Zusammenhang mit der Erhaltung psychischer Gesundheit in der Gesellschaft anbieten. Es wurde davon ausgegangen, dass die Sozialarbeit in diesem Bereich ungenügend vertreten ist, obwohl die sozialen Umstände und die Umgebung, in der die Betroffenen leben, oft einen grossen Einfluss auf die psychische Gesundheit haben.
Die empirische Recherche wurde in der Stadt Tuzla im Zeitraum von Juli bis September 2016 durchgeführt mittels einem eigens dafür entwickelten Fragebogen. Die Studie umfasste 70 Teilnehmer, 32 Sozialarbeiter/innen und 38 Fachpersonen in sozialen Berufen aus Institutionen und Organisationen im entsprechenden Bereich (Social Work Center Tuzla, Institute for Psychological and Social Care an der Universitätklinik Tuzla, Institute for Education of Persons With Mental and Physical Difficulties Tuzla, Center for Mental Health – Dom Zdravlja Tuzla, Home for Children Without Parental Care, PI Educational Centre of Tuzla Canton, Retirement Home sowie die fünf NGO Amica Educa, Vive Žene, Snaga Žene, Zemlja djece und UHD Prijateljice).
Die Resultate wurden mittels bekannten statistischen Vorgehen und unter Einbezug des SPSS 20 (statistical package for data analysis) analysiert. Die Resultate zeigen, dass der Sozialarbeit in Institutionen, die sich mit der Erhaltung der psychischen Gesundheit beschäftigen, eine wichtige Rolle in der Förderung und Erhaltung psychischer Gesundheit in der Gesellschaft zukommt. Die Studie zeigte aber auch, dass Sozialarbeit in diesen Institutionen nur ungenügend vorhanden ist.[:]
