A sixteen-year-old girl – let’s call her Amina – was directed to Amica Educa by the Social Work Centre Tuzla, since she and her family needed support that the Center was not able to provide. The family had multiple issues and this girl suffered major consequences in all areas of her life. Her father was diagnosed with PTSD (war veteran), his only income is approximately € 60.– per month. Amina’s mother has severe spine issues. Amina often skipped classes in order to take her mother to the doctor’s appointments and get her medications. She was a very good student before the problems occured in her life. Her family was living in an apartment that was owned by her uncle (the father’s brother) who lives abroad, so they had to pay a monthly rent for using it. They were in conflict with him because the family had debts for unpaid bills for utilities. Amina didn’t have school supplies. She didn’t have adequate shoes to wear and was walking in summer shoes during the winter.

Amica Educa’s social worker decided to provide assistance through organizing a Family Group Conference including her teacher, a representative of the Social Work Center and the Youth Centre and a psychotherapist to make a Family Plan. This young girl had to fulfill many tasks, but she was willing to do it all. One of the tasks was to collect all necessary papers for the one-year scholarship that the Disabled Veterans organization was offering to their schooling children. In order to generate her own income, the Youth Centre made it possible for Amina to attend a course and gaining a certificate in cosmetology. Through the collaboration with other NGOs, Amica Educa provided the working material. Amina was also engaged in psychotherapy sessions within the Amica Educa Family Counseling Centre which empowered her in terms of dealing with stress and anxiety caused by the family situation. She became regular at school and improved her grades. Amica Educa contacted the uncle who obviously needed to hear the details about the family situation from someone else. He agreed that the family could use the apartment without paying a monthly rent which was a huge relief for the family.

A few months later, Amica Educa’s social worker called the father to check how things were going. He cried and said that everything Amica Educa had done for them actually saved their child and the whole family. He speaks with his brother again. One day, Amina came to Amica Educa to greet everyone. She was in a neighboring NGO, working as a volunteer with children “Like she was …“, she said.

Ein sechzehnjähriges Mädchen – wir nennen sie hier Amina – wurde vom Sozialamt an Amica Educa verwiesen, da sie und ihre Familie Hilfe brauchten, die das Angebot des Sozialamt überstiegen. Die Familie musste mit vielfältigen Schwierigkeiten klarkommen, und Amina litt in vielen Bereichen ihres Lebens unter den Konsequenzen. Ihr Vater war ein Kriegsveteran, litt an posttraumatischen Störungen, seine Rente betrug gerade mal € 60.– im Monat. Die Mutter hatte Probleme mit der Wirbelsäule, und Amina musste oft auf die Schule verzichten, um sie zu ärztlichen Behandlungen zu be­gleiten und für sie die Medikamente zu besorgen. Aminas Familie lebte in der Wohnung ihres Onkels (der Bruder des Vaters), der im Ausland lebte und eine monatliche Miete verlangte. Da die Familie Schulden hatte, gab es Konflikte mit dem Onkel. Amina hatte nicht nur keine Winterschuhe, sie hatte auch keine Schulunterlagen, dabei war sie eine sehr gute Schülerin gewesen, bevor die Probleme überhand genommen hatten.

Die Sozialarbeiterin von Amica Educa beschloss, Amina zu helfen und organisierte eine Familien­kon­fe­renz, um zusammen mit der Familie, Aminas Lehrer, der Vertreterin des Sozialamt und einer Psychotherapeutin einen Familienplan auszuarbeiten. Das junge Mädchen hatte daraus viele Aufgaben zu erfüllen, aber sie war damit einverstanden. Eine Aufgabe bestand darin, die nötigen Un­ter­lagen für ein einjähriges Stipendium zu beschaffen, das eine Orga­ni­sation den Schulkindern von Kriegs­veteranen anbot. Um ein eigenes Einkommen zu generieren, ermöglichte das Jugendzentrum des Sozialamts Amina die Teilnahme mit Zertifikatsabschluss an einer Ausbildung als Kosmetikerin. In Zusammenarbeit mit anderen NGOs stellte Amica Educa die Arbeitsunterlagen zur Verfügung. Amina erhielt auch psycho­logische Betreu­ung bei Amica Educa, damit sie mit der Stresssituation zuhause besser umgehen konnte. Sie besuchte die Schule wieder regelmässig und ihre Noten verbesserten sich. Amica Educa kontaktierte den Onkel und erklärte ihm die Familiensituation. Dieser war darüber nicht ausreichend informiert gewesen und erklärte sich damit einverstanden, dass die Familie mietfrei wohnen konnte, was eine grosse Erleichterung darstellte.

Als die Sozialarbeiterin von Amica Educa nach einigen Monaten mit dem Vater Kontakt aufnahm, weinte er am Telefon und sagte, dass Amica Educa mit allem, was sie für die Familie getan hatten, das Mädchen und die ganze Familie gerettet hätten. Auch der Kontakt zu seinem Bruder hat sich verbessert. Eines Tages besuchte Amina Amica Educa und erzählte, dass sie sich in einer benachbarten NGO engagiert und dort Kinder unterstützt «wie ich eines war», wie sie selber sagte.
